OVERVIEW
SFCE’s winter Premier Development Program (PDP) provides all players the opportunity to become a better player, with the option of using professional coaches for a eight-week session throughout the winter months. Our PDP is a cutting-edge program no other club or travel group can match in the Shenandoah Valley. The program is reviewed each year for enhancement opportunities and will continue to set the bar for soccer training. This program will be like no other – a tremendous opportunity for any serious soccer player.
PDP provides players the opportunity to spend important time with the ball. For players, who play both Fall and Spring, the opportunity to progress between the seasons; and allows the remaining players, who played just one of the seasons, the opportunity to either wind-up their past season or get a taste of what to work on before the beginning of next season. In all events, SFCE’s PDP helps players to master “the greatest game in the world.”
The PDP curriculum is specifically developed so as to be geared towards challenging each player with skill, age and talent-level topics, and activities. By its very design of training, some of the content will be new material while some content will be topics presented to the players in the past, but now, the limit on time and space will be more demanding.
SFCE feels that the soccer development of any player is best described as a marathon. It takes countless hours to develop ball mastery and good decision making. As with everything, it is obvious that the more a player plays/trains, the better they will become.
Training in a wide variety of foot skills and core competencies including vision and decision making, this program will benefit those that are ready for premier level training but not necessarily the commitment that a premier team requires.
Other benefits include:
- Comfort and confidence on the ball (using all parts of the foot)
- Quicker decision making
- Beating players using escape/attack moves
- Shooting/ Striking from different distances/angles
- Defending and attacking principles
- Speed and Agility techniques
-
Players and parents will also benefit from: - Preview of demands of premier level training
- See growth in child’s game
- Complete evaluation at the end of the program
- (if requested) meeting with an SFCE coach at the end of the program
Each 60-minute session will include:
Technical Skill Portion:
This part of the program (45 minutes) is designed to help improve players' technical ability, tactical speed, and most importantly, getting them comfortable with the ball. This program will help develop faster play on the ball, confidence on the ball, quick decision making and improve tactical awareness. Also, it will help teach players how to train on their own.
The program is developed to teach individual play and builds up to small group play. It deals with individual and small group techniques and tactics while encouraging players to play faster, smarter, and under pressure.
Weekly topics will include:
- Combination play
- Improving the first touch
- Shooting, striking and scoring goals
- Finishing inside the box
- Aerial control
- Setting up a set piece (free kicks, corners, throw-ins)
- Attacking and defending in 1v1, 2v2 and 3v3 situations
- Foot skills and combination moves
Speed, Agility, and Quickness Portion:
In this portion of the program (45 minutes) we will focus on improving core strength, sprinting technique, balance, coordination, explosiveness, and agility. Any athlete that attends these sessions will see an improvement in their physical performance, confidence, and mental toughness.
